Wake Up Call

234.5 – A Wake Up Call In The ER

Wake Up CallWoke up this AM like any other morning. #3 was stirring in the crib so I went and gave him his soothie a couple of times and went back to bed. Got up, got on the scale (234.5 after a BAD day yesterday – more on that later) and that’s when things started getting weird.

Had this feeling in my chest as if I got startled. I’ve experienced it before, but this was more than just once or twice.  Took my pulse which wasn’t elevated, but when I experienced one of these “startled” times I noticed that my heart was skipping a beat.  No good. I took myself to the ER and got a total checkup including EKG, chest x-ray, blood & urine samples, etc.  (Can’t WAIT to see what that costs).

And with the exception of slightly elevated blood pressure which has been par for the course for me in recent years and slightly low platelts, everything checked out perfectly normal.  In fact, the ER doc told me I was in perfect health aside from losing some weight.  But he even went so far as to tell me that he didn’t even consider me obese or overweight.  He DID say to stay away from carbs and go high protein / low carb to lose weight.

So what did I do?  Proceed to leave there and grab 3 McMuffins on the way to work.  What a piece of shit.  I can tell you… I’m done.  No more.  Ever.

As for yesterday… As I said in that post, I stopped for McDonald’s in the morning.  Had my typical salad for lunch.  Wife was out for a PTA meeting so I ended up taking the boys to Burger King for dinner.  I didn’t eat bad necessarily (2 chicken sandwiches, one of which I didn’t eat the bread) but it still was another meal of fast food.

Could this AM’s issues have been caused by that?  Who knows.

But I was struck by what #1 said to me as I left the house… “Will you be home tonight Dad.”.  As I sat in the ER, all I could think about was wanting to make sure that I was.
