269.5 – What Have I Done?
Sitting here at my desk at 12:52 AM on an early Tuesday morning. Monday (yesterday) I woke up and got on the scale… 269.5. Last evening, I re-started reading a book I’ve read several times before: Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn. In a nutshell, this book is all about living a plant based (vegan) lifestyle.
It’s a super compelling read and I feel like I’ve come to a fork in the road. As you can see by the 269.5 my carnivore-ish experiment hasn’t worked. Yes, I’ve not been nearly 100% about it and yes I’ve been drinking like a fish since the pandemic. But something needs to change.
So, as I sit here getting ready to go to bed, I’ve completed my first day on a plant based vegan diet. Here’s a complete rundown of what I’ve had to eat / drink today:
- Breakfast: NONE
- Lunch: white rice, Chinese mixed vegetables
- Dinner: large mixed salad (lettuce, cucumber, red pepper, carrots, pickles, green olives, lemon juice)
- Snacks / Drinks: Coffee (black) x 3, handful peanuts x2, handful shelled pistachios, day old popcorn, water (several throughout day)
And that’s it. No cheat. No alcohol.
As I sit here, I’ll admit I’m feeling a little weird. A little light headed, most likely from being tired.
I know I’m going to my brother’s house on Saturday to celebrate my nieces birthday… they’re serving ribs. I’m not sure how I’m going to navigate that. But for today, I’m off and running.
