Behind The Bar

Behind The Bar For January 2014

Behind The BarI love beer. Love it.

And whiskey. Cause whiskey is awesome.

I’m also a big fan of red wine but don’t drink it all that often (I don’t think).

I started a project last month where I kept track of  the amount and frequency of my drinking.

This post will be updated during the month of January 2014 as I have a night out or a cocktail at home.  Stay tuned!

  1. In-Law’s Place – 1.1.2014
    Gentlemen Jack / Merlot
Kicked off the new year in style with a brand new bottle of Gentleman Jack courtest of my mother-in-law.  Had a glass of wine with dinner.
  2. Home Sweet Home – 1.4.2014
    Jack Daniels
Was a hell of a day on the home front. We’re in the process of deciding if we want to build a new home. It’s a terribly frustrating experience. Jack Daniels helps matters.
  3. Home Sweet Home – 1.5.2014
Yuengling / Great Lakes Christmas Ale
For Christmas, the boys received a gaming table from my in-laws. This thing is huge (TWSS) and it took my father-in-law and I damn near 5 hours to put it together. Naturally… there was beer involved.
  4. The Annex Bar & Grille – 1.8.2014
    Miller Lite
Wife was out the other night and the boys had earned a night out.  I asked them where they wanted to go and lo and behold they said they wanted to go to my favorite little watering hole – The Annex Bar & Grille. The burgers were amazing as always and I’m always a big fan of an ice cold Miller Lite.
  5. Home Sweet Home – 1.12.2014
    Perfect Manhattan
More home building BS led to an incredibly long day, led to an incredibly strong drink on a Sunday evening.
  6. The Winking Lizard – 1.18.2014
    Beer
Wife and kids are out of town. I was headed to the movies to see Devil’s Due which turned out to be pretty terrible.  Prior to heading to the movie, I stopped at The Winking Lizard to kick off the 2014 World Tour Of Beers. Knocked out 3: Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, Two Hearted Ale and Kalamazoo Stout.
  7. The Winking Lizard – 1.19.2014
    Beer
Spent pretty much the whole afternoon / evening at the Lizard watching the AFC & NFC Championship games. Put a big dent into the tour over several hours: Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot, Great Divide Yeti, Ayinger Brau-Weisse, Sierra Nevada Pale, Ale, Avery White Rascal, Ten Hills Pale Ale, Chomolundma Honey Nut Brown and Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout.  Sounds like a lot (and it was) but this was over nearly 8 hours.
  8. The Winking Lizard – 1.20.2014
    Beer
For the third day in a row I was at a Lizard drinking beer.  Time to take a break for sure.  This time I was at the Lizard in Avon as there was a fellow quitter in town on business.  5 of us got together, swapped some stories and some beers. I knocked off 3 more from the tour… belly feels HUGE today.  Too much craft beer over the last 3 days.
  9. Granite City Food & Brewery – 1.24.2014
    Beer
Went to Granite City with Marko before going to see The Wolf of Wall Street (which was long but outstanding… TWSS).  Had a samplers platter of their beers which was amazing.  I think my favorite was The Northern, but the Broad Axe Stout was tremendous as well.
  10. Home Sweet Home – Royal Rumble – 1.26.2014
    Great Lakes Christmas Ale, Budweiser
The Road To WrestleMania kicked off with the Royal Rumble.  And while we didn’t rage like we will when the Beeramid returns, we knocked back a couple of suds.

10 out of 31 days (32.25%) was down from 45.16% in December.
